Peter Harrand

Peter and Janet Harrand have lived in Alwoodley for over forty years.  Their four children all went to Wigton Moor school and so did two of their grandchildren. Janet was for many years on the staff at Wigton Moor School.

Peter has been a city councillor for over twenty years and has always taken a special interest in the care and well-being of older people. ‘Social Services for older people in Leeds are good but the value and contribution of charities and local groups of volunteers is at least as important’ he says.’ In the future the third sector will be of ever-increasing significance to society.

Peter is also a member of the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority, which has reputation as one of the most efficient and successful in England. He served in the Cabinet of the City Council for six years, has been on Harewood Parish Council for longer than he can remember and is a member of the committee of the Tree Tops community centre.
